Finishing the Fourth’s Fireworks: July 1-7, 2024

………………………………………………(ignore April 30, 2017 publish date – this was published on July 17, 2024)

I know…………..I already posted about this year’s fireworks, but that was only from 3 of the 7 locations I shot……………all from home and all on July 4.

Some other nearby towns had their pyrotechnic displays on July 1, 3 and 7. To be complete, I’ll mix in 4 shots from the earlier post, but none of the videos.

On July 1, I just happened to see something in the distance and way to my left from my living room that I thought were coming from Bergenfield, but online research tells me that they didn’t shoot off fireworks that evening……………but Englewood did, so that’s who I’ll credit.

Not great, but passable, considering the angle and distance (two to three towns away):

Next up was Saddle Brook on July 3rd. Their displays are always interesting and here are the first four:

But this next one was the winner this evening………..can you guess why without looking at what follows it?

Here’s a large hint:

Yes, it’s the triple cross on the steeple of the Methodist Church at the corner of Summit and Passaic in Hackensack. I never saw it when I took the picture, but I was fortunate to capture it being backlit by fireworks from two towns away.

Would you believe that I took a picture that included that triple cross just 74 minutes earlier that evening?

And if anyone’s interested in the cross’s story………………

The next 4 are the repeats, starting with oddball fireworks from Bergen County’s initial display in Leonia, which – like everything else so far – is two towns away (click to enlarge):

This shows the finales of the Bergen County and the nearby Hackensack displays:

Here are two Hackensack shots that look like they’re coming out of the residential building that’s right across the parking lot from me (and next to part of the still-visible YMCA building that won’t be there much longer, unfortunately):

Because of all the new construction in Hackensack, I didn’t think I’d be able to photograph the 10-miles-away Macy’s fireworks displays on barges in the Hudson River like I was able to years ago, but some of the 5-barge shots towered over the buildings AND the cloud cover for a nice surprise:

Both of these fireworks displays in Maywood and Paramus were scheduled for June 30, but the weather changed that to July 7, so what was first is now last.

Maywood launched first………….

…………..but at one point, they were both going off:

I can’t be sure which one-town-away location these 3 beauties belonged to, but I suggest that all the other towns find out who Maywood’s and Paramus’ fireworks suppliers are and make the switch before our big 250th birthday in 2026:

See ya next year!
