These events are from 1977, 1983 and 2016 (Ooops! Already posted the 1983 one).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\">This was inspired by someone\u2019s post from exactly three years ago (11-19-22) that was titled \u201cToday in Punk Rock History\u201d. It commemorates an unfortunate Joey Ramone incident that occurred at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, on 11-19-77 &#8211; 45 years (to the day) prior to that post &#8211; and uses my definitive photo of what happened that night (and NO, I was not aware of the usage until I found it recently\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.and watermarked it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\">Here is the article and its attachments (shouldn\u2019t his title\u2019s last word be \u201cPast\u201d instead of \u201cPost\u201d?) :<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com\/?attachment_id=24946\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-24946\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24946\" src=\"https:\/\/iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Today-In-Punk-Rock-History-WM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"699\" height=\"1621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Today-In-Punk-Rock-History-WM.jpg 699w, https:\/\/iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Today-In-Punk-Rock-History-WM-662x1536.jpg 662w, https:\/\/iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Today-In-Punk-Rock-History-WM-390x904.jpg 390w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\">By the way, that NBC appearance on Tom Snyder\u2019s \u201cTomorrow\u201d show was on 9-1-81. Sometime after that, I hand-wrote a letter to Joey (it\u2019s only dated as \u201c9\/81\u201d). It\u2019s rather lengthy, so I am not going to enjoy typing it out, but here it is:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>Joey,<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>For the 4th time, I now introduce myself as the photographer who took the Capitol burn shot of you. The 3rd\u00a0time resulted in your outburst at the \u201cTomorrow\u201d show. The first two times (Capitol 1978 and Asbury Park), you said nothing about you not wanting it published. What am I supposed to be &#8211; a mind-reader? Now it\u2019s published and you\u2019re pissed. I suppose you got equally mad at the magazine\u2019s art person (who picked it out of the 40 or so slides that I gave) and the printer (for the crummy color separations).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>You\u2019ve still never said why you feel that way. Sure, it\u2019s not a complimentary picture, but if you will can the ego for a minute, it\u2019s a piece of Ramones history\u2026not a pretty one, but it\u2019s something that happened to you that Ramones fans heard about and can now see the seriousness of it. And unlike Creem, which would have put some terrible caption under it (and you know it), Hit Parader\u2019s was entirely factual. And since when is rock all happy moments?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>For your information, Linda Stein was so taken with it, that she told Sire publicity to buy it, but Janis Schacht had no budget and did not.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>I\u2019ve shot the band for at least 4 years and was still interested enough to come into the city for a 2nd\u00a0time that day to catch you on \u201cTomorrow\u201d. So what do I get for my interest in the band and for doing my job? Eloquent verbiage from Joey Ramone: \u201cAsshole\u201d and threats of murder (!) upon future publication.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>Listen, my agency has that shot and may spread it around the world (and the Federal Copyright Law says I can do what I want with it editorially). If you had chosen a more acceptable way to convey your message, I could have pulled it out of circulation, but I won\u2019t lift a finger now after your tantrum, unless better communication is forthcoming. I have to deal every day with the prima donnas of rock (a group I <u>never<\/u> thought you\u2019d be in) and I\u2019ve <u>never<\/u> gotten an outburst + threats from any of them.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>You must think it\u2019s just business and money to me. The fact that I\u2019m writing this to you should tell you otherwise &#8211; if I didn\u2019t give a shit, I wouldn\u2019t bother. The fact that rock mags pay shit and Hit Parader pays \u00bd of <u>that<\/u>, should tell you more.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>I also gave up my chance to shoot you guys on the panel during the break because I chose to explain my position to one of your people. I also knew enough to walk away from your verbal garbage, because you were about to go on and I still cared enough to not want to affect your performance in a negative way.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>And <u>you&#8217;ve<\/u> got a lot of nerve complaining about me! Maybe you\u2019d like to pay me for using one of my shots in \u201cRock \u2018n\u2019 Roll High School\u201d without my permission.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px;\"><em>Anyway, I still like the band and the music. You\u2026\u2026..I\u2019ll reserve judgment. I\u2019m still open and willing to work with you if you can come up with something a bit more civil. If not, that\u2019s your business.
