2023 – Evil Doesn’t Live Here

(ignore April 30, 2017 publish date – this was published on June 30, 2023)

I see the strangest things from my apartment. You’d think it would be a yawn after 35 years of this, but it never stops (and I hope it never does). A “criminal” practicing shooting a cop in his police car? Ho-hum!

As usual, this all began when I happened to notice some odd activity in the next-door parking lot of the Second Reformed Church of Hackensack last month. I park my car in that lot, so I’m often looking in that direction from my living room picture window.

Here’s what I initially saw:

An unfamiliar-looking police car with some sort of tent or covering behind it near my car (red) and my downstairs neighbor’s car (green)………..what the heck was this?

I zoomed in closer. Two cops, a police car with no town name or police organization on the car – just “Police”, some sort of screen and a small stepladder……………..that tells me nothing.

Then someone walks the “screen” and some other stuff by the car……………..more nothing.

Now some woman appears to be stealing the cartop police lights…………….WHAT IS GOING ON?

The car moves, so I zoom in on the license plate. If I wind up calling the real police about this, I have to have something useful to give them because they’d think I was crazy if I told them what I had seen so far:

GEORGIA PLATES? This is getting more bizarre by the moment!

Then the car exits the lot onto Ward St:

A film crew starts setting up on the Ward St sidewalk:

Is this a movie?

It must be because there’s a guy with a clapperboard:

I zoomed in on the clapperboard:

So his name is “John Doe”? That’s a bit suspicious-sounding…………and the date’s WAY off, not to mention the overly-generic production name.

This must Jane Doe, the cameraperson (John’s wife? Sister?):

So now we have an overview of the scene: the film crew, who appear to have forgotten to replace the rooftop cop lights (and the word “POLICE” on the driver side of the car) AND a suspicious guy in a black muscle shirt in the church lot exit:

The next few minutes are taken up by Mr. Muscle Shirt practicing his scene: running from the lot up the sidewalk and around the back of the cop car and then stopping by the driver’s side window to shoot the cop with TWO fingers! (all my finger hand guns have only one finger because the middle finger makes a better trigger finger than the ring finger……….got that?).

After seeing two takes of this, I decide to try to capture it on video (who would believe my description without it?). Please hit the “Watch on YouTube” box to view (it gives a more accurate view count):

The REALLY funny thing about all this is that while this make-believe cop scene is going on to my left, a REAL cop scene is going on to my right! So I took a big panoramic picture that clearly shows the church parking lot scene on the far left, while the less-clear, real cop scene components are circled in green on the right:

When/if that fails, I also zoomed in on the police and Sheriff’s officers surveying the scene and then talking to some of the people in that far-right car I circled above. It looks fairly casual:

So I’ve just witnessed two simultaneous cop scenes on either side of me and – at this point – have ZERO information about either of them.

The real cop scene looked pretty dull and I’m not going to get much information out of them about it anyway, so I turned to the left (almost always a good idea) and here’s what I found out:

SOMEHOW – and no one seems to be quite sure how – The Discovery Channel contacted the church about filming in their lot and their basement.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out what was so special about this lot that couldn’t be found in 12 million other parking lots, but congratulations to the church for landing this. I hope they benefited greatly from it.

I’m told that the filming was for an episode of Discovery’s “Evil Lives Here” series – hence, my disclaimer of a title for this post in defense of my neighbor.

That’s the extent of what I know about this. I don’t know what the episode title is, when it will debut or if it’s already debuted.

If anyone reading this is familiar with the show and this episode in particular, post a reply and fill us in.

Maybe they captured on film some suspicious-looking guy shooting from across the street and 7 floors up. 😉

Before I wrote a single word, I met with a church official and spoke with a church elder about this subject. At this stage, the only new info I’m gonna get is if someone here sees the episode and posts about it.
