2023 – Hackensack, NJ’s July 4 Fireworks

(Ignore April 30, 2017 publish date – this was published on July 10, 2023)

I don’t know what it is, but this years’ Fourth of July fireworks show just didn’t do it for me. Either I’m too jaded or this year’s collection wasn’t very imaginative…………and was WAY too dog-friendly (no loud exclamation points/booms at the end of any of the fireworks). I kept waiting for the echo BOOMs off the high-rises, but there were none.

These were just……………..quiet fireworks. I could see the pyrotechnic displays of a couple of other towns from here, but they were the same……..meh.

I took over 50 photos of the Hackensack displays, but had to scrounge to find 10 that were halfway decent. Here are 6 of them:

Toward the end, I found myself paying more attention to how much smoke was being generated/illuminated, as in these two:

This one might take a little imagination/squinting, but I saw the right side of someone walking from left to right and carrying a just-born baby solar system in front of him:

And then it was over…………except for the tons of smoke. The city looked like it was on fire, but without the flames:

I read the next day that because of all the smoke from so many towns that smoke alerts were issued. In the above picture, the smoke appears to be pointed northward…………..revenge to Canada for their incessant wildfire smoke?

There’s something interesting in this similar view besides what looks like some amateur fireworks on the left in Teaneck. If you look on the distant right horizon. you can see what looks like red flames. This is from the Macy’s fireworks on the far side of Manhattan on the East River (about 10 miles away) and it’s the only (accidental) shot I got of them this year:

Later on, the baseball field lights were turned on in Foschini Park (where the fireworks were set off………….and were apparently still smoking) as the orange moon rose in the east:

Hey – might as well get a tight shot of that moon while the camera’s still set up in my living room:

That might be my best shot of the night! And it was very dog-friendly.

Next year, let’s bring back the old fireworks and issue 30-minute sedatives to all dog owners for their anti-pyro pets.

    Still, a worthy effort.
