2023 – New Construction at 9-11 E. Passaic St, Hackensack
……….. ……………………………(ignore April 30, 2017 publish date – this was published on December 7, 2023)
Looking out my living room window on 11-21-23, I saw a large crane that seemed to be right in the middle of Main and Passaic streets. Was the former YMCA building being torn down?
I walked over there and saw that it was a bit further down on Passaic St. I also saw what appeared to be a newly-erected wall of rusty metal down near the McDonald’s at Passaic and River streets:
What the hell…………..?
This site used to house two businesses. Here’s a 2021 shot I found on Google of the Roger Joseph Salon at 9 E. Passaic and Target Printing & Graphics at 11 E. Passaic:
Speaking of Graphics……………
And here’s a 2022 shot from Google taken after the demolition of both businesses:
Back to the present………….
I saw more of these metal pieces being off-loaded from a truck and then individually-hoisted in the air and guided down next to the “wall”……………
………….and then pushed further down by an excavator:
A view to the west (PANO shot – click to enlarge all images labeled “PANO”):
…to the north:
…and to the east, as far as Foschini Park (as taken from home the next day):
The day after (the 23rd), I walked over to the site and found that the “wall” – now on two sides – had been almost completely driven into the ground, save for about 2 feet (PANO):
A lot of stuff being excavated on the south side (PANO):
The reverse view from the northwest corner of the site (PANO):
(my thanks to the crane for blocking out the sun)
It’s now a week later (11-30-23). Here’s a PANO taken from the northeast corner:
Two more PANO views looking north and east:
Usually, if I don’t see anything going on from home, I’m not inspired to take a stroll over there. On December 1, I saw a crane in action:
But I couldn’t see what it was carrying for a long time until I saw this load (in the rain):
Nope – still staying home.
BTW – this is what the new building is supposed to look like:
BONUS! If you’re lucky enough to score a front-facing apartment in this place, you get a stunning view of the side of the old YMCA building! (see 11-30-23 north PANO view, 4 pictures back)
Good luck!
