2024 – Moon Over Hackensack: Setting & Sliced
(ignore April 30, 2017 publish date – this was published on June 22, 2024
The moonset took place on June 13, 2024 and this locale-establishing shot was taken the following morning:
For all you locals, the hi-rises are on Prospect Ave, just south of Passaic St.
If you’re viewing this in a dark room, the setting moon – as shown in this photo – is over the left half of the hi-rise on the right and continues moving downward to the right:
I’ve stitched the next four images in the sequence together (click to enlarge):
This is the best building-to-moon shot of the sequence, so it stands alone:
These are the last two shots before the moon disappears (click to enlarge):
This crescent moon occurred on June 7, 2024:
When I was trying to set up that shot, I saw a plane about to pass by and wanted to get a time-lapse image of the plane’s straight-line light and blinking red light going by the moon, but – apparently – a minor earthquake must have shook my building at that moment and this was the result:
(you buying that?)
The crescent over some clouds…………..I’ve shot other crescents before, but never got what looks like a planet blocking most of the moon. I know it’s not the Earth’s shadow, but you’ll have to look up the answer:
It’s also in most of the rest of the shots.
These moonshots were taken from my kitchen. Here’s a wider view that shows those same clouds and some local Hackensack buildings:
To give you locals some perspective, this daytime shot is essentially the same as the above nighttime one. It shows buildings on Linden St, Passaic St and everyone’s favorite triple-cross atop the church at Passaic and Summit. In the background is Garret Mountain, 10 miles away in Paterson, NJ:
Saw another plane in the sky and – still wanting to get that plane streak across the frame and near the moon, I tried again (and failed again………..but slightly less disastrously):
FINALLY – just before the moon disappeared, I got it……….but it would have been nicer when it was close to the moon (complain, complain):
Lastly, a pretty crappy, overly-zoomed-in final shot as the moon started to vanish:
I really shouldn’t complain……….I’m fortunate that I can shoot so many things without ever leaving my home.
Beautiful and unique. Your work is always excellent and enjoyable
